Is Beyonce's “Beyhive” Fan Base a Coven?

    For years rumors linking Beyonce to the occult have swirled, but these rumors peaked when Beyonce's former drummer of 7 years, Kimberley Thompson, filed a civil harassment restraining order against Beyonce for "extreme witchcraft." The restraining order, which was denied, accused Beyonce of stealing intellectual property and computer hard drives, tapping her phone and controlling her finances, as well as "magic spells of molestation, the murder of my pet kitten, and magic spells on my lovers." 

    These accusations seem to resonate with complaints leading to accusations of witchcraft throughout the centuries. Thompson's blame of Beyonce for hardships in her life bears a resemblance to old-time accusations of witches leading to illness or inconveniences. Similar to claims centuries past that witches were the cause of the death of cattle, Thompson is accusing Beyonce of using magical powers to kill her cat. 

    Despite the restraining order being denied, there were still people who supported Thompson in her accusation of Beyonce as a witch through social media. 

    This was not the first time Beyonce has been rumored to be linked to the occult. For years there have been conspiracy theories that Beyonce and her husband, Jay Z, are part of the Illuminati and participate in brainwashing the public through music videos and choreography. Jay Z is seen during many of his performances making a triangle with his hands, which is allegedly a signal for the "Eye of Providence." Beyonce has also been seen holding up the triangle, even doing so during her 2013 Super Bowl half-time performance.

    Jay Z has explained the meaning of his triangle hand signal saying: "'When we first started, we had this group called Christión," Jay said. "When you sell 10 million, you go diamond. We believed in them so heavy it was like, 'This group is going to sell 10 million records!' So we start putting the diamond up for Christión. That's how it all came about, and then we started playing with it, and then we started doing it at shows, then the whole crowd started doing it'" (Complex 2023). 

Beyonce's daughter, Blue Ivy's, name is even conspired by some conspiracists to be an acronym for Born Living Under Evil Illuminati's Very Youngest.

Beyonce addresses the conspiracy theories in her song, Formation, saying: "Y'all haters corny with that Illuminati mess."

    While the validity of these conspiracies is up for debate, it is apparent that the nature of the accusations Beyonce has faced as one of the most famous singers in the world mirror accusations of witchcraft throughout history.
